February Wrap Up 2016

Sunday 6 March 2016
Hello Book Lovers!!!

Today I'm sharing with you all the books I read in February. I managed to read 4 books this month which still wasn't quite the amount I wanted to get read but it was better than last month so I'm happy about that.

The first book I read was

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

This is the fanfiction Cath writes in the novel Fangirl, also by Rainbow Rowell. It's about Simon Snow and his time in a magical school sharing a dorm room with a guy called Baz who turns out to be a vampire. Baz and Simon don't see eye to eye but have to go on a mission together to destroy the evil Humdrum along with their friends Penelope and Agatha. This was a really fun read and very different to what Rainbow Rowell usually writes. I thoroughly enjoyed it and gave it 4* on Goodreads.

The second book I read was

Dancing Shoes by Noel Streatfeild.

This was my reread of the month. It's about 2 sisters called Hilary and Rachel and unfortunately their parents die. They have to go live with their aunt who owns a dancing troupe called Mrs Wintle's Little Wonders. Hilary settles in straight away but Rachel finds it very difficult. She also has to try accept the fact that even though one of their mum's dying wishes was for Hilary to go to the Royal Ballet School, this isn't something Hilary wants to do. This was a fun quick read and it was great to revisit it. If you love dance then I would definitely recommend this to you. I gave it 4* on Goodreads.

The third book I read this month was

Dancer by Colum McCann

This is based on the life of a dancer called Rudolph Nureyev. We first meet Rudi (Rudolph) when he's dancing for a group of injured soldiers. He is only a little boy at this stage but has a huge love for dance. We then follow him through his life in Paris as a dancer performing in many shows. However he also gets himself into a lot of trouble and the police are even after him. I found Rudi very rude and too full of himself and I didn't get attached to the characters. I also found the book hard to follow as the perspective changes got too confusing. I did however like the family aspect as you could tell how much family meant to Rudi. I only gave this book 2* on Goodreads.

And the final book I read this month was

Reasons to Stay Alive by Matt Haig

This is a true story about Matt Haig's struggle with depression and anxiety. I found this book very insightful and incredibly inspiring. He talks about some of his past experiences and how even if you try to overcome these issues, you can't just succeed overnight. It takes time and you have to persevere with it. He gives you further reading sources if you're struggling with depression or anxiety or if you know of anyone that is. I loved this book and gave it 5* on Goodreads.

So it's now time to tell you my favourite book of the month. I read some great books this month but of course the winner for my Favourite February Read goes to.....

Reasons to Stay Alive by Matt Haig!!!

I definitely think this book could help a lot of people and I recommend it to anyone that struggles with depression or anxiety or if you know someone that does as you may be able to help, even if it's just making sure they know you're there for them.

So that's it for February and we are now a good way into March!!! Hope you've read some fabulous books this month and I will speak to you soon.

Happy Reading!!!
