Feel the Fear and do it Anyway by Susan Jeffers - Review

Friday, 23 September 2016 0 comments

Hello Book Lovers!!!

Over the last couple of days I've been reading Feel the Fear and do it Anyway by Susan Jeffers...and wow, this book is amazing! I'm so glad it was recommended to me as I feel like it's helped me so much and it's definitely something I'll keep going back to.

So this is a non-fiction book and talks about ways in which we can help the way we think and how we can fight our fears in things such as jobs, relationships, social situations, changes to your life etc.

It is split into chapters for each topic and each chapter goes into depth about the reasons why we think the way we do and what we can do to help these thoughts. Susan Jeffers also gives techniques which could help are thinking so we become more positive in everyday tasks rather than feeling fear in having to do something we don't think we are going to enjoy or we think we won't be very good at.

There are quotes throughout this that link to each topic as well as images and diagrams that help us visualise are mind and the way we think in both a positive and negative way.

The book is very interactive as you could do a lot of the techniques she tells you about as you're reading which gives the reading experience that little bit of difference.

I can't quite believe just how relatable this book was for me. I found myself saying 'that's me.....that's me.....that's me as well!' so much and I could put into context some past experiences for some of the topics discussed.

I found the images and diagrams very helpful in understanding the way our minds work and that helped me think of ways in which I could improve the way I think about certain things. I have issues with anxiety every now and again; it's not something that's there all the time like it is for some people, however it's something that comes and goes (usually very unexpectedly). As I have been feeling incredibly anxious over the last couple of weeks, I thought it would be a good idea to see what this book was about and I'm so glad that I did.

There were so many quotes I absolutely loved and agreed with and they made me think a lot about my self confidence and how I can improve that as it's something that as of at the minute, isn't that great.

The writing was very easy to understand and I never felt like it was dragging on which is something I find can happen quite often in books of this genre. Because of this I was engaged the whole way through and I flew through it. This is definitely something I'll go back to, especially if I'm not feeling great as I know it can make me feel happy and positive.

I would definitely recommend this if you feel a bit lost, or have trouble with self confidence, get anxious, feel low about areas of your life etc. as this book covers so much and I think there is something in there for everyone and everyone can relate to what it is saying in some way.

Hello Book Lovers!!!

Me and my boyfriend decided to do a 10 minute challenge on each of our channels. So on my channel we had 10 minutes to draw each of the book characters and on his we had 10 minutes to draw each of the gaming characters as his channel is all about gaming (as well as some 3D Art). His video is linked in the video description so you can check that one out there. Quick side-note...I'm terrible at drawing!

I hope you enjoy and I'll speak to you all very soon!

Fell the Fear and do it Anyway by Susan Jeffers

Thursday, 22 September 2016 0 comments
Hello Book Lovers!!!

Tonight I decided to start reading through Feel the Fear and do it Anyway by Susan Jeffers. I'm currently 64 pages in and can't quite believe how much this book has already made me think about. If you don't know what this book is, it's a self help book for feeling scared/anxious/worried etc. and how to deal with life situations in a more positive manner and how this can have a much more positive impact on the way you begin to see life and its scary situations.

I already know I'm going to love this book but obviously I'm only 64 pages in so I have a bit to go yet, however I have a quiet day tomorrow so I know I'm going to be reading more of this then. I'll update you with my full thoughts and opinions in my review!

Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone by J.K. Rowling - Review

Hello Book Lovers!!!

I've finished Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone by J.K. Rowling and I absolutely loved it just like I thought I would. I'm so happy I'm finally rereading the series and I can't wait to continue on with it.

I'm sure we are fully aware of what this book is about but for anybody that somehow isn't sure, then this is about Harry who gets accepted at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry however he wasn't aware he was a wizard before all of this happened.

While at Hogwarts Harry makes friends with Ron and Hermione and the three find out about the Philosophers Stone that was created by Nicholas Flamel. The stone is hidden on the third floor corridor in the school and guarded by Fluffy, a three headed dog.

Harry, Ron and Hermione think that Professor Snape is trying to steal the stone so go out to try to save it before he does.

I'm pretty sure I don't have to go into any more detail than that so now onto my thoughts and opinions! I love the Wizarding World and how magical it all feels. I completely fall in love with Diagon Alley every time I read about it or see it on the films. The locations feel so warming and even when things aren't quite going to plan, you still just feel so at home with this story.

The characters are fantastic. I love Snape, Hagrid, Dumbledore (specifically his inspirational quotes) just to name a few and I love how they are developed during the story. The friendship between Harry, Ron and Hermione is so warming, even in the beginning when they think Hermione is a bit of a pain to say the least. The way in which these three support each other is so captivating and gives a real sense of true friendship.

Because I haven't read the books in such a long time, I couldn't fully remember the differences between the books and the films. But now rereading this first book, there are quite a few, however this is the one story that that doesn't bother me in the slightest. The book is fantastic and the film is fantastic and I can't wait to delve in the second book, the Chamber of Secrets!

Eclipse by Stephanie Meyer - Review

Friday, 16 September 2016 0 comments

Hello Book Lovers!!!

I've finally finished Eclipse by Stephanie Meyer and I have to say I didn't enjoy this as much as I wanted to. I will still be finishing the series as I'm so far through it now and only have one book left but this book just wasn't exciting enough for me. This is the third book in the series so if you don't want to be spoilt I have a review for Twilight on my blog you can check out as well as New Moon, the second book in the series.

So in this part of the story, Bella is faced with her best friend Jacob telling her they can't be friends anymore because of her being with vampires. However Charlie, Bella's dad wants Bella to hang out with more people than just the Cullens.

Charlie also warns Bella and Edward Cullen about a killing spree that has happened in Seattle and Edward thinks that there are newborns and they are the ones doing the killings.

Bella tries to see Jacob while all of this is going on but Edward tries to sabotage their meetings and so this makes it very difficult for Jacob and Bella to see each other.

Victoria, a vampire set on killing Bella has also returned and this sets off a run-in between Edward's family and Jacob's family. But Bella wants Edward to stop being so protective so she can still see Jacob.

Bella is still wanting to be a vampire and when she tells Jacob the news that she will be making this change after graduation, he loses his temper and says he'd rather see her dead. This causes friction between the two but soon enough, Jacob tells Bella his true feelings for her.

So the story continues and we see the vampires and werewolves fight against the enemies and try to protect Bella, even if this does causes a little bit of rivalry between them!

I didn't find this part of the story interesting at all. I felt myself getting bored a lot of the time and didn't feel the need for the book to be so long as most of it was just dragged out.

I did however like the fight scenes nearer the end as that was fast paced and kept me engaged. I also liked the rivalry between the werewolves and vampires however I found it quite petty at times.

The writing I thought was too drawn out and I found that the story could have been written a lot quicker if it wasn't for the amount of time spent reading about how rubbish Bella felt.

The scenes I did find engaging were what kept me reading, however it took me such a long time to get through this book as I kept getting bored and felt like I had to drag myself through it.

August Wrap Up | 2016

Hello Book Lovers!!!

Today I'm wrapping up all the books I read in August. I am so pleased to say I read 6 books and 2 graphic novels and I couldn't be happier! I'm still currently behind on my Goodreads reading goal for this year but as long as I'm reading a good amount a month I'm happy. So without further ado lets get started!

The first book I read in August was...

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne

This is the script for the stage production performed in London. It's not a full novel so you don't get the descriptive writing but I still enjoyed it however I did have some issues with it. I've done a full review of this on my channel so click here if you would like to hear my full thoughts and opinions! I gave this 4* on Goodreads.

The next book I read was...

Dream House by Marzia Bisognin

This is about a lady called Amethyst who comes across the house of her dreams. She gets invited in to stay dry while there's a storm and ends up staying the night. But when she wakes up she's completely alone. She goes out to try find clues to what's happening and comes across some strange people and even stranger happenings on the way. I really enjoyed this book however I would have liked to find out more about Amethyst as I don't feel like we got to know her very well at all. The story kept me engaged and I was kept on the edge of my seat the whole way through. I gave this book 4* on Goodreads.

And next I read...

Pig-Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman

This is about Cameron, a 13 year old boy in need of a heart transplant. It's not looking good for him as they can't seem to find a match and so his father contacts an 'outside' doctor who manages to find a match for him. But this match isn't from a human, it's from a pig. The story was so captivating and I loved reading about the characters and found myself getting attached to some of them. I loved Cameron and his determination and I just felt myself smiling throughout. I gave this book 5* on Goodreads. I loved it!

The next book I read in August was...

Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

This is about two girls called Emily and Sloane who are best friends and have their whole summer planned out. But Sloane disappears and the only thing left is a bucket list she's left for Emily. But on this bucket list there are things that Emily would never in a millions years do but Emily thinks that by completing this list, that could bring Sloane back. So we follow Emily though her summer and how she completes these tasks, with a lot of help from the friends she makes on her journey. I really enjoyed this book but I don't see the hype surrounding it. It was a fun summer contemporary read but nothing stood out for me. However I did still really enjoy reading it and I gave it 4* on Goodreads.

After that I read...

Saga. Volume 1 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples

Saga is a Sci Fi graphic novel series following a family trying to find their place in the world. The two fall in love during a galactic war but they are from two different planets that are at war against each other. So because of this they aren't meant to fall in love. However this doesn't stop them and they have a baby. But they have enemies after them trying to kill them so they have to go on the run and defeat the enemies so they can finally find peace. I absolutely loved this graphic novel and I'm so pleased I picked it up. I'm not a Sci Fi fan but I completely understand the hype around this series. If like me you aren't a fan of Sci Fi, I definitely recommend this to you as it might just be the doorway to introducing you to Sci Fi that you enjoy! It was exciting and full of twists and turns and for this I gave it 5* on Goodreads.

After Saga I read...

A Whole New World. A Twisted Tale by Liz Braswell

This is an Aladdin retelling where Jafar is now in charge of Agrabah and has the lamp. Because Jafar is a villain, this is never going to end well for the people of Agrabah and so it's up to Aladdin and Jasmine to defeat Jafar and save their kingdom. But they could also risk destroying their kingdom in their journey. I enjoyed this book as it was a fun quick read and a good take on Aladdin. However I didn't find it descriptive enough in the locations and I also found it got slow at times and because of this I lost concentration some of the time. However I did still enjoy this so gave it 3* on Goodreads.

I then went on to read...

On the Other Side by Carrie Hope Fletcher

This is about Evie Snow that dies in her sleep at the age of 82 surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She finds herself at her own private heaven but as her 27 year old self. As well as this the gates to her heaven won't open as Evie's soul is too heavy, and to open the gates, her soul must be light. So Evie has to find a way for her to communicate with her family about 3 secrets she has kept from them for years. But with her family not being able to see or hear her, this could be quite complicated. I loved this story as it was such a sweet read and I got so attached to some of the characters. I thought the character development was fantastic and it made me feel every emotion. The only thing I would say is it got quite difficult to keep up with who was related to who etc. as there were a lot of characters introduced. Apart from that I really enjoyed it and gave it 4* on Goodreads.

And finally I read...

Saga. Volume 2 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples

I won't say too much about this as it's obviously the continuation from volume 1 however this time, the baby's grandparents are introduced and are initially against them but end up helping them defeat the enemies. Also there's a character that was mentioned in the first volume introduced in volume 2 and I loved that! I can't wait to find out what they are going to end up doing in the following volumes! Again another amazing read that kept me intrigued and asking questions throughout. 5* on Goodreads without a doubt!

So that's it for all of my reads of the month so now it's time to find out what my Favourite August Read was! And the winner is...

Saga. Volume 1 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples!!!

The reason I chose volume 1 is because this introduced me into more Sci Fi and I fell completely in love with it. It was exciting and captivating and I just couldn't put it down. Volume 2 was also fantastic but without volume 1, I would have never of read volume 2!

That's all for this post and I will speak to you all very soon! My Wrap Up video will be posted later today so you can all look forward to that! Feel free to let me know what you read in August and what you're favourite read of the month was as I'd love to know!

Happy Reading!!!
